This large grant award should cover the majority of costs related to the renovation, allowing the city to reallocate city parks replacement funds for other needs within the park system. Any grant funds still available after completion of the Rainbow City project will go toward the needed replacement of other park amenities in Community Park.

With community outreach, planning, and actual construction, the project should be completed by early 2014.

The City is receiving these funds under the State's Housing-Related Parks Program due to local development of the New Harmony affordable housing project. The City received extra credit for the affordability of the units, placing the housing development on an in-fill site, and the City's commitment to the regional Blueprint Plan and compliance with the state Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA).

In coming months, parks staff will begin to create a project schedule with opportunities for the community to participate in the planning and design of the project. Parks staff looks forward to working with the community on the next steps of this project.
