Free Wi-Fi Now Available in Davis School Libraries
A Patch donation paid for the installation.

Schools in Davis fulfilled a frequent request earlier this month by bringing wireless Internet access to their libraries.
All 17 Davis Joint Unified School District campuses now have Wi-Fi in their libraries.
Kim Wallace, the district's Director of Instructional Technology, said the $80,000 installation comes from a $100,000 donation Patch made last year after Davis won a nationwide holiday light contest.
She said the money was slated for instructional technology, and a committee held several meetings to decide how to spend it. A common theme: people wanted wireless Internet on campus.
"Installing wireless is a fairly expensive endeavor to do in every single room on every single campus," Wallace said. "We came up with the idea of installing wireless in every single school library in the district because that was a place where it could be equitably distributed."
Also, a Wi-Fi installation is a one-time expense–perfect for a one-time donation. The Internet goes through campus filters that block content unsafe for school, she said.
The other $20,000 from the donation was spent on a subscription to California Learns, a database of numerous curricular resources, encyclopedias, videos and more.
