Scott Weltz, who swims the 200-meter breaststroke, pulled off an upset win in the trials. The 2010 graduate is a volunteer coach with the UC Davis women’s swim team.
The 200 breaststroke heats begin at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 (Weltz is in Heat 3). If he advances, he will swim at 12:17 p.m. July 31 (semifinal) and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 (final).

Kim Conley, who participates in the 5,000-meter run, squeaked in for a third-place finish in the trials — thus qualifying for the London Games. The 2009 graduate is a volunteer coach with the track and field team.
Round 1 of the 5,000-meter begins at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7. (The final is Friday, Aug. 10, 12:05 p.m.)

Carrie Johnson, an incoming student in the School of Veterinary Medicine, will go for London gold in the two sprint kayaking events in which she won gold medals at last year’s Pan American Games, and in which she placed first in the Olympic trials:
- K1 500-meter — heats, 2:07 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7; semifinal, 3:16 a.m. Aug. 7; and final, 2:08 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9.
- K1 200-meter — heats, 2:12 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10; semifinal, 3:30 a.m. Aug. 10; and final, 2:14 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.
