Davis High School student Clara Fannjiang could win a $100,000 scholarship tonight in Washington, D.C. The contest is part of the Intel Science Talent Search, which will feature keynote speaker Walter Isaacson starting at 4 p.m.
The event is the nation's oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition. Watch the live feed in this article.
The awards ceremony will recognize the top 40 young scientists in the U.S. including Clara Fannjiang of Davis High School. The first place finalist will be awarded a $100,000 scholarship prize. The remaining will receive:

- Second place: a USD 75,000 scholarship
- Third place: a USD 50,000 scholarship
- Fourth place: a USD 40,000 scholarship
- Fifth place: a USD 30,000 scholarship
- Sixth and seventh place: USD 25,000 scholarships
- Eighth, ninth, and tenth place: USD 20,000 scholarships
- The remaining 30 finalists: USD 7,500 scholarships
Fannjiang’s research is titled, “Better Images, Fewer Samples: Optimizing Array Configuration for Compressed Sensing in Radio Interferometry.” Last year, she won the Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair in Sacramento and the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in San Diego, according to the Davis Enterprise.
