Yolo Food Bank raises over $1 million to address CalFresh Benefit pause (dailydemocrat.com) — Davis residents are part of a countywide push that helped Yolo Food Bank raise over $1 million to cover gaps from the recent CalFresh benefit delay. The Davis Food Co-Op joined major donors in rallying support, adding a relief fund at its registers and helping ensure extra food distributions and grocery gift cards reached struggling families across Yolo County.
   

2. Terrain.org Announces the Winners of the 16th Annual Poetry, Nonfiction, and Fiction Contests! (terrain.org) — A writer who splits his time between Davis and Nevada has just won Terrain.org’s national nonfiction contest for an archaeology-inspired essay, with publication coming in February. The announcement also highlights other poetry and fiction winners and notes that the next round of contests will open for submissions in May 2026, offering another opportunity for Davis writers to enter.
   

3. Yolo County Sheriff warns of scam claiming to be Sheriff's Office (dailydemocrat.com) — Yolo County residents are being warned about scammers spoofing Sheriff’s Office phone numbers and staff names to demand fake payments for court or citation debts. Officials stress they will never collect money by phone and urge people, especially seniors, to ignore such calls, protect personal information, and report suspected fraud to law enforcement or the FBI.

DCRC's January 20 webinar addresses the roles of FSH on the growth and survival of preantral follicles (hoards.com) — A UC Davis animal science professor is leading a free national webinar on January 20 exploring how follicle-stimulating hormone affects early ovarian follicles, with implications for cattle reproduction and assisted breeding. Her Davis-based lab’s work on ovarian biology and bovine stem cells underpins the session, which also offers continuing education credit for veterinarians who attend live.
