NorCal Teen Gets Perfect SAT Score

A senior at Davis High School is in shock after learning that he got every single question on his SAT exams correct.

DAVIS, CA - Talk about the ultimate gold star on your homework: a Davis senior received a perfect score on his SAT exam.

Apurva Mishra, a 17-year-old from Davis, Calif. recently learned that he got every single question on the notoriously difficult exam correct. The College Board, which administers the exam, told KCRA3 that only a fraction of a percent of the test’s roughly 1.5 million takers receive a perfect score.

While Mishra received a perfect 1600, the median score is 1083, according to college research website Capex.

"It was a really surprising thing for me because I didn't know I would be able to perform like that," Mishra told KCRA. "I wanted to get there and I did get there, and that was the most amazing thing to me." Mishra said that he experienced some difficulty with the reading section of the exam.

"They're reading these long passages and then they ask you at some point in time, what was the meaning of the intro paragraph or what did the author want to convey in that section?” Mishra told ABC7. “And you're like I don't know."

Mishra’s father Rajiv told KCRA3 that he was concerned his son wasn’t studying enough for the exam. That would be understandable: Mishra is Davis High School’s student body president, vice-captain of the robotics team, and is interning at a software engineering firm.

“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it,” his father said. Rajiv has a lot to be proud of: his elder son, Aakash, is a junior at Harvard who reportedly scored 20 points lower than his younger brother.

Mishra said that he has applied for 12 colleges, and expects to start hearing back around March.
