Ribbon-Cutting Set for Rainbow City Playground Reopening

The City of Davis is hosting a community celebration for the reopening of Rainbow Playground on Monday, Feb. 13, a school district holiday.

DAVIS, CA -- The City of Davis is inviting local kids and their parents and guardians to come out and have some fun by celebrating the re-opening of the Rainbow City playground, located at 1405 F St., in Community Park.

A ribbon-cutting event is planned for 2 pm to 3 pm Monday, Feb. 13, which is a Davis Joint Unified School District school holiday. Among the planned activities are a ribbon-cutting ceremony with treats, rainbow face painting, a special guest mascot, and an activity provided by the Davis Arts Center.

The playground, which was built in 1991, recently underwent renovations so that it could meet current standards of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and ASTM International, a global standards development organization.

In addition to structural safety, the playground was updated to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act so that persons with varying ages and abilities can access Rainbow City.

The park had a soft opening on January 5, with nearly 200 people visiting that day, has been hopping ever since. Now the City of Davis wants to host an official community celebration.
