Seriously, Don’t Be Shy: Share Your Comments

I often describe Davis Patch as an “online news source.” Here’s why I’m realizing that it might not be the best way to introduce the site:

People in town hear the word “news” and they automatically think of a newspaper, which is essentially a one-way street of information: Reporters gather news and they deliver it to readers. Davis Patch is not that.

Yes, we do gather news, but that’s just the starting point. Truth be told: Many of you in the community know more about certain topics than I ever could. That’s why it’s so important that you don’t hesitate to chime in. Please, please, please don’t be shy about sharing your knowledge or opinions.

If you’ve ever felt something bubble up after reading a story or watching a video on the site, share that thought before moving on with your day. If you don’t, you’re depriving other readers of information they might otherwise find valuable. Plus, it could help guide my reporting.

Rid yourself of the notion that I’m the sole deliverer of content on this “local news site.” Sure, I’m a reporter, but in many ways, so are you.
