UPDATE: Three Davis Men Arrested at Occupy Oakland Protest

The details of the arrests are not yet known for Davis residents Leon Ho, Jonathon Yeh and Jowad Younis.

Three men from Davis were arrested at Wednesday night’s Occupy Oakland protest.

Leon Hu, Jonathon Yeh and Jowad Younis were among the 101 people listed in the arrest stats for the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility on Nov. 2. All three are listed as Davis residents in the report.

"The arrests were in response to a building being occupied," said one person familiar with the three. His first name is Jason. "It wasn't the result of people causing trouble."

Jason said that a large crowd of people were standing in front of a police line. A tear gas can landed next to the group, prompting them to run away. By that time, they were flanked by two other police lines from both directions.

That whole group, according to Jason, was rounded up and spent the evening in jail. Hu, Yeh and Younis were released the next day.

"It wasn't a matter of outside agitators," Jason said. "But the fact that there were Davisites shows that people came from everywhere."

Yeh showed up in an article in today's San Franisco Chronicle. They quoted him before he was taken away.

Jonathan Yeh, 26, of Davis, said he had been in the wrong spot at the wrong time and had not heard a dispersal order.

"I did hear people throwing bottles and breaking windows," he said.

Twitter user @nzmrmn, who also spent the night in jail, sent these three tweets Thursday evening.

  • Status check? Met 3 #occupysacto #occupydavis ppl in jail last nite, good ppl. Stuck in SF ;)
  • @OccupyDavis Englishman (Yonis?) w/ East London accent, Egyptian-Am physics student, 41 y/o bald metal rocker, skinny Asian-Am teen student
  • @OccupyDavis Sorry, I am terrible w/names & had dozens of cellmates over 12 tired/sleepless hrs. Russian named Mickael too from Sac too (??)

Some of those are responses to @OccupyDavis Twitter inquiries about the people who were arrested.

One of the men, Jowad Younis, was arrested in Davis in 2004 for possession of stolen property, but most charges surrounding the incident were dropped.

The three men, according to Jason, have not actively participated in the Occupy Davis movement.
