Two Men Robbed at Knifepoint in South Davis

Police arrested two males from Woodland: a 20-year-old and a 16-year-old.

Police arrested two suspects on Tuesday after two separate robberies involving a knife.

Joe Manuel Michel, 20, was arrested along with a 16-year-old whose name has been withheld because of his age. The unnamed boy is believed to be the one who wielded the knife. Both are from Woodland.

The first robbery took place at 7:58 p.m. on the 1500 block of Valdora Drive. The victim, 20, called police to say he was robbed by two Hispanic males, saying that they pushed him, demanded his property and threatened him with the knife.

“The victim fled and the suspects left without acquiring any property,” said Lt. Paul Doroshov. “Within minutes, a second victim reported he was just robbed in the area.”

That second robbery was two blocks away, on the 1600 block of Drew Circle. It happened the same way: The two males demanded that he surrender his property, while threatening with a knife.

“The victim surrendered his wallet, cell phone, keys, and other personal items and the suspects fled on foot with his property,” said Doroshov.

When police arrived, they spotted two suspects who matched the physical description provided by the victims, according to a release form the Davis Police Department. After a short foot chase, officers arrested both subjects in the area of 1515 Valdora.

The 16-year-old was arrested on robbery charges and running from police officers and was lodged at Yolo County Juvenile Hall. Joe Manuel Michel, the 20-year-old, was arrested for obstructing police officers, providing police officers with false information and for two outstanding felony warrants. He was lodged at the Yolo County Jail.

Police are continuing to investigate Michel’s level of involvement in the two crimes.
