The University of California regents will pay out about $1 million to settle a lawsuit with 21 plaintiffs over last November’s pepper spraying of students on the quad. That's about $30,000 for each person involved with the lawsuit.

After a brief response about the funding source for the settlement, a reporter in the crowd (not me) asks: "Ultimately, that's taxpayer money though, right? Don't you guys feel you're kind of taking from people who didn't have anything to do with this?"
