VIDEO: The Many Co-ops of G Street

David Thompson has been a vocal advocate for cooperatives for many years. He recently spoke about the economic value of co-ops at a the annual meeting for the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives.

“We used to have a Main Street,” Thompson said of Davis. “But now it’s called G Street. “I keep wanting to get them to call it Main Street again.”

Thompson then goes on to list what he describes as a vibrant Co-op scene along G Street:

“On G Street, cooperatives are a majority of the economic volume,” Thompson said. “Ace Hardware and the Davis Food Co-op between them do $50 million a year.”

Thompson is the author of "Weaver of Dreams," a chronicle of the origins and values of cooperatives. He has been a major voice throughout the in Davis.
