Water main repair on La Rue Rd. includes detours and lane closures

UC Davis Design and Construction Management, or DCM, is set to begin construction from June 26 through July 31 to repair a water main at the intersection of La Rue Road and Orchard Road/Blue Ridge Road. The project, which will help repair the delivery of non-potable water used for plant irrigation, includes detours and may cause delays getting to the ARC as well as the Student Health and Wellness Center.

Plan for these impacts:

• No left hand turns or east/west intersection crossing will be allowed during working hours from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. at La Rue Rd. and Blue Ridge Rd. / Orchard Park Rd. during construction.
  • When traveling southbound on La Rue Rd. from Russell Blvd. a two-mile detour will lead travelers on a route which allows them to turn right onto Orchard Rd. to access the ARC and University Credit Union Center. This same detour will be in place for travelers needing to drive across the intersection from Blue Ridge Road onto Orchard Rd.
  • When traveling northbound on La Rue Rd. a half-mile detour will lead travelers to make a u-turn at Russell Blvd. so they can make a right-hand turn onto Blue Ridge Rd. instead. This same detour will be in place for travelers needing to drive across the intersection from Orchard Rd. to Blue Ridge Rd.
• The intersection at La Rue Road and Orchard Road/Blue Ridge Road will be converted into an all-way stop to regulate traffic flow.
• Both northbound and southbound traffic on La Rue Road will be reduced to one lane when approaching the construction area.
• Cyclists and pedestrians: One crosswalk will remain open on the south side of the intersection. Cyclists are asked to dismount and cross as pedestrians or avoid the intersection by using the La Rue tunnel near the Segundo residence halls.

To avoid detours and congestion, consider parking at the Pavilion Parking Structure when driving to the ARC.
