Carmel Valley Car Prowler Grabs Cash, Ransacks 2nd Vehicle

The man heard his garage open and close at 3 a.m. Friday.

A Carmel Valley man is short some cash after a car prowler took money out of his unlocked vehicle early Friday morning.

Around 3 a.m. Friday, a man on the 3700 block of Ruette De Ville heard his garage door open and close, and went to see what was happening, according to a Facebook post by the San Diego Police Department's Northwestern Division.

Seeing nothing in the garage, the man locked up his home and noticed one of his vehicles outside had its cover removed and hood propped open. The center console had been ransacked, and the battery cover had been removed, but nothing was missing when police responded. It was another one of the man's vehicles, parked and unlocked across the street, that was found to be missing an undisclosed amount of cash from the center console.

"This is a good reminder that there are suspects looking for things to take from vehicles," police said in the post. "Please remember to not leave anything in your vehicle. Take out the garage door openers from your vehicles at night. Lock the doors and secure the windows. Try to park in the garage or on the driveway, and make sure the area in front of your home is well-lit."
