On Monday, February 14 around 11:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Communications Center received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a traffic accident involving a motorcyclist in the 1400 block of North Melrose Drive in Vista.

Deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station and the Vista Fire Department arrived on scene to find a 23-year-old man down and unresponsive in the roadway.  He had major injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Further investigation revealed a box truck made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the collision.  The box truck driver remained on scene.  At this time, It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the collision.  The investigation is ongoing.

The motorcyclist remains in critical condition at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
