WALNUT, CA — The Walnut City Council will hit the ground running in 2022 with a special meeting scheduled for Jan. 4.

City officials will discuss the city manager position during the meeting's closed session. Closed sessions are not open to the public, but residents can still address the council during the comment period.

The discussion is tied to current Walnut City Manager Rob Wishner's retirement announcement earlier this month. Wishner will retire in January after spending nearly 35 years in government.

"Under his watch, the city completed their general plan update, constructed Meadow Pass Road and performed numerous improvements to the city's parks," Mayor Eric Ching said in a statement on Wishner's retirement. "I wish him the best of luck in his new roles and thank him for everything he's done for this city."
