Local High School Gridiron Teams Make Good Showing in Week 4

LA PUENTE – It was a tale of two weeks as a week after blowing a first half lead to lose 34-14 to Wilson, Nogales bounced back Friday to dispatch the visiting Workman Lobos 33-0 on their Homecoming night.

“Last week we had a pick-6 called back against us which stopped our momentum,” Coach Gus Martinez said. “Wilson did a good job to get the momentum in the second half. Friday we took all the momentum into the second half.”

It looked like Nogales (2-2) would strike first as they had what appeared to be an opening kickoff return for a touchdown called back. Nogales did score on the drive, culminating in a Jeremiah Serrano scoring run. Nogales took a commanding 21-0 lead into the second quarter when Vincent Macapacal found paydirt from 11 yards out.

Serrano finished with 104 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns. Ivan Ordaz added 65 yards on seven carries. Macapacal had 39 yards, 11 of which was on his only touchdown of the game.

Nogales hosts Rowland next Friday in its annual “Battle of the Tracks” game. Kickoff is at 7 pm. Workman (0-4) visits Mark Keppel next Thursday. Kickoff is at 7pm.
