Pomona Officer Killed, Second Injured During Standoff
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Friday night.

A Pomona police officer was fatally shot and a second officer was injured during a standoff with an armed suspect that began Friday night, according to authorities. The suspect was taken into custody after a 15 hour standoff.
Pomona Police Chief Michael Olivieri confirmed on Twitter that the officer had died. The slain officer was identified as Gregg Casillas. The second officer is in stable condition, according to Olivieri.
The shooting happened around 9:10 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Palomares Street.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, officers were attempting to stop a car after responding to a call for a person driving recklessly Friday night when a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, the suspect crashed into a parked vehicle before running away on foot and barricading himself inside an apartment.
The sheriff's office said officer tried contacting the suspect when he began to shoot through the door and struck the two officers. A law enforcement source told The Los Angeles Times officers were unable to remove the officers to safety because of the gunman.

The officers were then taken to the hospital. Authorities have not identified the slain officer.
