REAL-TIME RESULTS: Los Angeles County's 2016 Primary Races Election

Patch's live roundup of Tuesday's election results from across Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA- With voter registration across California at an all-time high, millions of people were expected to head to the polls to cast their votes in Tuesday's presidential primary election.

As of the May 23 voter registration deadline, the California Secretary of State reported that 17,915,053 Californians were registered to vote, which accounts for 72.29 percent of the state's eligible voting population. What's more, that's the highest ever total statewide voter registration heading into a primary election, according to the state.

Not surprisingly, there are far more registered Democrats than Republicans in the state, with 44.82 percent for the former and 27.29 for the latter.

“In the 45 days leading up to the voter registration deadline, there was a huge surge in voter registration—total statewide voter registration increased by nearly 650,000," Secretary of State Alex Padilla said. "Part of this surge was fueled through social media, as Facebook sent a reminder to all California users to register to vote. It is clear that Californians are engaged and excited about this election. Now the next step is to turn out and vote!”

MAJOR ELECTIONS

The races that will be on all ballots in California are those for the presidential primary, senate and Proposition 50.

The race in Los Angeles to watch is the 5th District supervisor race. The district is considered to be more conservative than the rest of Los Angeles County. Supervisor Michael Antonovich is being termed out and has endorsed his chief of staff, Kathryn Barger. She, however, faces a tough opponent in L.A. Councilman Mitch Englander.
