Reward Increased In Fatal Diamond Bar Hit-And-Run

Authorities are still searching for the person whose car struck and killed 72-year-old Bruce Bodel on July 4.

DIAMOND BAR, CA — Authorities are now offering $20,000 for information in a July 4 hit-and-run crash in Diamond Bar that killed a 72-year-old man.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the successful arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the death of Bruce Bodel. The Diamond Bar City Council offered its own $10,000 reward in mid-August.

Supervisor Janice Hahn recommended the county offer its own reward in Bodel’s death.

"This crime has devastated the Bodel family and the Diamond Bar community," Hahn said. "Someone out there has information about who did this and what happened, and I urge them to come forward. The Bodel family deserves answers, and Bruce Bodel deserves justice."

Bodel was crossing Lycoming Street from Penarth Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on July 4 when a car failed to stop at the intersection and hit him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The car continued to travel west down Lycoming Street before going south on Lemon Avenue.

Bodel died several days later from his injuries.

The car was described as a two-door silver sedan with significant damage to its front end, including a cracked windshield, the sheriff's department said.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station at 909-859-2817. Anonymous tips can be sent to L.A. Crime Stoppers on its website or at 800-222-8477. Credible tips sent anonymously are not eligible for the reward from the county and city.
