Mother’s Day is around the corner and anyone who hasn’t picked out a gift for mom will want to read on. Sure, everyone knows about taking mom to brunch, buying her flowers, cards and balloons. But what if you want to be a little different? The following are five great think-outside-the-box gifts for mom on Mother’s Day.
- The Nintendo Wii comes inside a box. But this box rocks. It’s designed for the casual gamer – adults, girlfriends, grandparents and yes, mom too! The controller is shaped much like a remote control and many different accessories are available for the machine. If you buy a Wii for mom this Mother’s Day, don’t forget the games. One game that moms might enjoy is Wii Fit, which comes with a balance board that is part scale, and part exercise board. Moms can do step training, aerobics, games that improve balance, and hula-hoop with Wii Fit.
- Show her how far she’s come. Sometimes, people give photos of themselves as gifts. What better gift than to give a mother a framed photograph of her children? How about a photo collage of mom? This idea calls for you to gather photos of your mom through various stages of her life and putting them together in a frame. Start with a photo of your mom as a young girl (with her mom perhaps?) and move down the line. Gather photos from your mom’s childhood, teenage years, in her early ‘20s and so on and present it to her in a nice frame. She’ll love it.
- Is there a piece of advice that your mom has been dying for you to follow, but for some reason you have ignored? Well, this idea calls for following it. Of course, be reasonable and no, I don’t advocate dumping your boyfriend because mom hates him. I’m talking about things like finding a better job or keeping your room clean for a month. Write your mom a letter and let her know that you are committed to finally following her advice and take her out to a nice dinner!
- Be the catalyst for making her dreams happen. This is sort of the flip side of the above idea. Is there something that your mom has been dying to do, but has never done? This idea is simple. Find out what your mom has always been dying to do and make it a reality. If your mom has always wanted to go skydiving, find a skydiving school and book some time. If your mom has always wanted to sing, book some time in a local recording studio and make her do it. Grab a Mother’s Day card and write something along the lines of “Congratulations Mom, you are finally going to ….”
- Make her feel loved and appreciated by reminding her how special she is to you. Cards are nice, but what about writing something yourself? To be more specific, write down 5 of your best memories you have created with your mom and tell your mom why they are your favorite. Type them out and print them on card stock. The impression you leave with your mom will be timeless.
