• January Marks Start of Winter Sports Action (independentvoice.com) — Dixon families have a busy winter sports season ahead, with Dixon High soccer, basketball, and wrestling all kicking off league play in early January and home games at 555 College Way. Youth options are growing too, from Solano-Yolo Rugby practices at Hall Park to Dixon Little League registration, which stays open through Jan. 4 for the March 6–7 season start.
   

• The Making of a Lawyer (independentvoice.com) — A former Dixon City Council member, now attorney Devon Nishimura, traces his legal career back to guidance from longtime Dixon lawyer Doris McCready after a political dispute with the city. He explains how juggling work at Dixon Tractor Supply, council duties, and law school led him to a defense practice, and why his difficult City of Dixon experience ultimately shaped his path.
   

• Solano Emergency Communications Center to launch new phone tree (thereporter.com) — Starting Jan. 5, Dixon residents using the county’s non-emergency line will reach a new automated phone tree that can route them directly to the Dixon Police Department or other services. The Solano County Emergency Communications Center says the system should shorten waits, free up 911 dispatchers for true emergencies, and make it easier to reach the right help the first time.
