
Solano County California, –The Solano College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will be conducting four “Profitability Tactics for Small Retailers” seminars in Benicia, Dixon, Rio Vista, and Suisun the first week of December as part of a County of Solano Microenterprise Assistance Program funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the state of California.

Doctor Bruce Sanders, retail consultant/consumer psychologist and author of “Retailers Edge: Boost Profits Using Shopper Psychology” will be conducting the four-hour seminars. The seminars are designed to strengthen the skills of owners/operators of small retailing businesses in five areas instrumental to success: setting everyday prices, conducting sales promotions, increasing the size of each purchase, changing shoppers’ preferences, and ensuring shoppers return soon. Each participant will receive a copy of the “Retailers Edge” book. Follow-up one-on-one counseling by SBDC Business Advisors will also be available at no cost to help retailers implement the strategies learned in the seminar. - Dec 6, 9 am - 1 pm: Suisun City Council Chambers, 701 Civic Center Blvd. Suisun City
- Dec 7, 8 am - Noon: Rio Vista Sanitation Service Conference Room, 100 Main Street, Rio Vista
- Dec 8, 8 am - Noon: Benicia Community Center, 370 East L St, Benicia
- Dec 10, 9 am - 1 pm: Dixon Fire Department Conference Room, 205 Ford Way, Dixon
The Solano County Microenterprise Assistance Program will cover the full cost of this seminar for eligible microenterprises. To qualify, the business must be located in Benicia, Dixon, Rio Vista, Suisun or unincorporated areas of Solano County, have five or fewer employees, and the owner’s income must fall below 80% of the median income for Solano County. For those that do not qualify under the grant criteria to attend for free, there is a $50 registration fee.
In addition to the training and one-on-one counseling, participants who meet the above grant eligibility criteria will also receive access to an online program titled “Profit Mastery.” The Profit Mastery program is designed to help small business owners understand their finances and increase their profitability.
