Local citizens will be collecting signatures from Dixon registered voters at Safeway this Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m to put an Initiative on the November ballot the “Dixon Open Government Act” that will make city government more open and transparent. Additionally, signatures will be collected at Safeway the weekend of April 21, and April 22.
This ordinance, if passed by the voters, will require:
- timely access to the same information on issues as is available to our elected officials and city staff;
- the opportunity to comment in open meetings on these issues before decisions are made;
- prompt access to all public records
- an effective right to learn about, attend, and participate in public meetings.
By signing the petition you are just helping us placing the initiative on the ballot. Let the voters decide if they want an open and transparent city government. They can vote No if they like, but the important thing is—they can vote.
