Think Before Lighting That Fireplace, Dixon

Tuesday marked the start of the winter.

Don’t Light Tonight season and residents of Yolo County and the northeast portion of Solano county including Dixon, Rio Vista and Vacaville should be aware that the use of fireplaces, pellet stoves, wood stoves and other wood-burning devices such as outdoor fire pits, can create particulate pollution.

Don’t Light Tonight (DLT) is a voluntary wintertime air pollution reduction program which runs through February.

On winter nights when air pollution is approaching unhealthy levels, the Air District sends out a DLT advisory and asks residents to refrain from building a wood fire for 24 hours.

Please encourage neighbors to sign up for Enviroflash at http://ysaqmd.enviroflash.org. By cooperating with an occasional Don’t Light Tonight request, everyone can make a significant contribution to improving air quality in their home and neighborhood.
