Davis, CA – Yolo Hospice is seeking volunteers from the community to give their time to others in need of companionship and support. Yolo Hospice has been serving Solano County for nearly 30 years and volunteers have always been a critical part of the care team. Yolo Hospice is currently in need of Vacaville, Fairfield and Dixon residents who would like to help us serve fellow residents.
All prospective Patient Care Volunteers take a training course which gives them the skills, understanding and confidence to be a Patient Care Volunteer for Yolo Hospice. This requires a four-day commitment to travel to Davis. After that, Vacaville, Fairfield and Dixon volunteers can serve Solano County residents in Solano County if they wish.
Yolo Hospice Patient Care Volunteers work as part of a team of professionals who give sophisticated nursing care, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. As part of the team, Patient Care Volunteers provide companionship to patients, which may include reading, writing letters, running errands or simply sitting with a patient.

“Though volunteers largely provide companionship to patients, their time and attention can have a profound effect on the lives of patients and their loved ones,” said Anne-Marie Flynn, Volunteer Services Manager at Yolo Hospice. “The volunteer training program is an invaluable aid to the volunteers in understanding their role and the difference they can make in the patient’s life.”
The Yolo Hospice Patient Care Volunteer training is scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays, July 20, 21, 27 and 28 from 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. in Davis. Advance registration is required as space fills quickly. Early registration is suggested. Registration is $40.00. Trainings are held throughout the year, but this is the only one to be held west of Sacramento this year.
