Best Of Dixon: Maria's Mexican Restaurant

The readers of Dixon Patch have spoken and they say that is the best Mexican restaurant in Dixon.

Since February of 2002, owner Mario Cuyun and his family have been cooking up hot plates of chile rellenos, cochinita and other Mexican favorites for hungry Dixonites.

Maria’s cuisine and warm atmosphere has made it a favorite among Dixon’s Mexican food restaurants.

“We do what we can here in Dixon and we try to put out the best product out there to satisfy our customers,” Cuyun said, adding that the other Mexican restaurants in town do the same. “Our family has been here since 1970, we are long-timers here in town.”

Cuyun said his dishes represent not one specific region of Mexico, but a sprinkling of many different territories. One of the keys to having a successful business, Cuyun said, is getting to know your clientele.

“We are local, that’s a strong point right there and we try to keep it family style and friendly so that when people do come in that they feel at home,” he said. “A lot of people do like to be remembered. Whenever you walk into a place and people remember you, it’s like ‘Ok, great!’”

A humble Cuyun said he is “Happy, overall,” in being chosen as the best Mexican restaurant in Dixon by the readers of the Patch.

“Here in Dixon if anything we wish all citizens well,” he said.  “Especially the way that times are right now with a lot of businesses folding. I know it’s rough right there. My respect and my hat is off to all business owners because they work their butts off.”
