The Dixon Lions Club is getting ready to shuffle up and deal this Saturday during its 4th Annual Poker Tournament.

The poker tournament serves as a fundraiser for the club and gives Dixon residents and those from nearby cities the opportunity to have fun while supporting a good cause.

β€œWell when they started it four years ago it just seemed like there was a big developing interest in poker, in online poker and TV,” said David Kushan, the club’s second vice president. β€œIt seems like there was a lot of popularity, so we decided to do it. It was a good event.”

β€œWe’ll have a professional poker company running it, professional dealers,” Kushan said. β€œThere will be people there who are not experienced poker players. They will take the time and give a little bit of instruction ahead of time. Because you aren’t an expert (player) doesn’t mean you aren’t welcome.”

No one will leave empty-handed during the poker tournament Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Kushan said. For the price of a $75 ticket, participants will get to dine on the club’s famous tri-tip sandwiches and receive an entry into the tournament. The funds raised Saturday will help the Dixon Lions Club continue to do good things in the community.

The club aims to make a $2,500 or more profit from the event – money that it will use to provide assistance to many local youth programs, sports teams and community groups, Kushan said.

Through the years, Dixon Lions Club has supported the , , , , and many others.

β€œThe money they spend (Saturday), it’s going back into the community where people need it,” Kushan said.

The tournament will pay out its first four winners, Kushan said. First prize is a $500 merchandise gift card; second place will earn a $300 card and third place will receive a $200 card. The fourth place winner will receive a ticket to the Dixon Lions Club Dinner Dance set for April 2012.

Players must be 21 or older to participate.

The fun begins at the 201 S. 5th St., at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 13. The tournament begins at 7 p.m., Kushan said. Anyone who would like to purchase a ticket is asked to do so in advance by calling Kushan at (530) 400-2844. Tickets will also be available at the door.
