Committee Forms to Explore Possible Dixon History Museum

The Dixon Historical Society formed a committee to gauge community interest in establishing a Dixon History Museum

The Dixon Historical Society (DHS) has formed an exploratory committee for the purpose of determining if there is sufficient community interest in establishing a history museum. The proposed museum would display artifacts, photos and documents from Dixon's past and be the focal point of historical research in the community.

Dixon has never had a dedicated history museum. The closest we have is the archive at the , but archive space at the library is very limited and already overflowing with documents and photographs. We know that the community has considerably more history to display and share. Establishing a community museum is the best way to properly display, share and preserve Dixon's historical past.

The exploratory committee will seek to determine if the citizens and community organizations of Dixon are not only interested, but are willing to provide long-term support for such a major undertaking.
A candidate location for such a museum is the vacant on First Street which is owned by the County of Solano. Preliminary contacts with the County indicate they are very interested in seeing this building returned to public use and will make all reasonable concessions in this regard. However, if no suitable public use, such as a museum, can be found the County will sell this property to the highest bidder.
