Dixon High Dancers to Perform Saturday Night at the DHS Theater
Dixon High School's Dance Team is bringing a wealth of talent to DHS' Theater Saturday for its 2nd Annual Dance Show.
As the day of the big show draws closer, the excitement is growing at for this year’s Dance Show hosted by DHS’ Dance Team.
The show is set for Saturday, March 24, at DHS’ Theater, 555 College Way, at 7 p.m., and will feature the 17-member-strong DHS Dance Team along with teams from , Applegate Dance Studio in Davis, and Sacramento-based Galena Street East
For the past several weeks, Dixon High’s Dance Team has gathered at the theater to practice their dances moves, tighten up their routines and prepare for the show.

“It is a great show, there is so much variety,” said Penny Solano, the DHS Dance Team’s advisor. “We’ll have clogging, we will have tap dancing, we will have jazz, we will have a kick line dance. We will have cultural dances (and) we will have musical theater.”
Anyone buying a ticket to the show can expect to see some of the best dances that the teams have to offer Solano said.

“Most of the dancers are advanced because we only invite junior high and high school age (dancers),” she said.
Solano pointed out that each of the dance squads performing alongside of DHS’ Dance Team have won awards with their dances and are bringing the talent to Dixon.
Now in its second year, DHS’ Dance Team is striving to raise funds to be involved in regional dance competitions in the fall, Solano said. Saturday’s performance will help the dance team meet that goal.
Funds raised will help the dancers purchase costumes and pay for the competition fees. A costume can cost $50 and up, Solano said.
The dance team has so far performed at numerous rallies and during halftime at DHS basketball games. Solano said that the goal is to make dance a sport at the high school.
“Right now we are currently a club, we did it last year and we started performing at the rallies and the girls really liked it and it really caught on,” she said. “There’s a lot of talent at this school. These girls practice year-round. These girls are coming twice a week, they are really good, they are really together (and) they learn songs really quickly.”
The size of the club has doubled since last year, from eight to 17 dancers, Solano said. Dancing has many of the same benefits that other sports do, Solano said, including teamwork, accountability, responsibility, promotion of school spirit and having a program that makes Dixon a more attractive school to attend.
During last year’s performance, the dancers managed to raise $800 after paying for the costs associated with the performance including a light engineer and other things such as the programs.
This year Solano is encouraging everyone to buy pre-sale tickets at a cost of $8. The tickets can be purchased from any dancer performing at the show, from Dixon Dance Studio, 1910 N Lincoln St # 106, or Applegate Dance in Davis, at 2657 Portage Bay East, or by e-mailing Solano directly at penny@norcalhomeloans.com
The show begins at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 24 and will last approximately an hour and a half to two hours. The cost of a ticket at the door is $10.
