Dixon's Anthony Salaber Headed Across the Pond for Some Rugby Action
In late March, Dixon rugby player Anthony Salaber will be playing against other national teams and local teams in England.
He's tall, a bit on the soft spoken side, and polite. But don't let his demeanor fool you, get him on the football field or rugby pitch and senior Anthony Salaber flips a switch.
Salaber grew up in Dixon playing football, soccer and rugby alongside his older brother, (who himself is an All-American rugby player), often under the coaching of his father, Robert Salaber, president of the Dixon Rugby Football Club.
It's the latter sport that will take 17-year-old Salaber across the pond to England in late March to compete in an All-American Sevens Tournament - named so because there are seven players on a team, instead of 15.

"We are going to be going up there for a week, train for a few days, play for two days, and then I'm going to meet the Dixon High team a week after," Salaber said. "We'll be playing a lot of teams from around the world, it is a big tournament there in England and with the Dixon High team we will be playing local, England teams."
Salaber's excursion to England won't be the first time that he has traveled out of Dixon and the region to play some rugby. In Feburary, Salaber was among 12 players in his age group from across the country, selected for the High School All-American (HSSA) Rugby team that competed in Las Vegas.

"I'm looking forward to playing for my country in England and meeting a lot of cool, different people," he said.
But England won't be the last time that Salaber plays rugby. After graduation from Dixon High, Salaber may get the opportinuty to play in HSAA All-American Fifteens Team in Argentina over the summer.
Salaber said he will also be playing rugby for UC Berkeley in the fall, alongside his brother Nicholas. Salaber said he would like to pursue a degree in engineering.
In the video attached to the story, Salaber explains in his own words, the love of the game and talks about his upcoming tour in England.
