Tickets for the Snoop Dogg concert and Larry the Cable Guy comedy show went on sale 10 a.m. Saturday at the May Fair box office, as well as at all TicketMaster Outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

People began lining up outside the May Fair just after 6:30 a.m., bundled in jackets to protect from the early morning cold. By 10 a.m., close to 50 people were outside. While most were purchasing tickets for either the Wednesday May 9 Snoop Dogg concert or the Saturday, May 12 comedy show, others planned to attend both shows.

“I just rolled out of bed,” laughed Maddy Ramirez of Dixon, who was in line by 6:30 a.m. to buy Snoop Dogg tickets with her husband Julian and her brother’s sister-in-law Becca Hammack. “It’s Snoop Dogg! He’s a legend.”

The trio, who purchased six tickets for their family, knew they wanted to be in line early. Ramirez drove by the fairgrounds late Friday night to make sure there was not a line forming earlier than she expected. They were thrilled when they arrived at 6:30 a.m. and discovered they would be the second party in line.

“We want to be as close to the front as possible,” Hammack said. “I love his music. I always listened to it when I was younger too.”

“He has cool songs you can ride to in your car or hang out with your friends or just listen to him,” Ramirez added. “I can’t wait.”

Angelia Lara and Taylor Barstad, both Dixon residents, were fifth in line. The friends were purchasing tickets for Larry the Cable Guy, and they were excited with their place in line. They arrived at the fairgrounds just before 8:30 a.m.

“We wanted to get good seats,” Lara said. “This is worth the wait.”

“I love the way he talks,” Barstad said of the comedian and actor best known for his signature catchphrase “Git-R-Done”. “I love that redneck side of him.”

Directly behind Lara and Barstad were juniors Alex Gonzalez and Alex LaBass and sophomore James Mayoral. The teens were in line to purchase Snoop Dogg tickets.

Gonzalez remembers when he first heard the rumor Snoop Dogg was coming to the Dixon May Fair. The rumor was hard to believe, he said.

“He’s so big in the hip hop culture,” Gonzalez said, “and he’s coming to Dixon.

“I’ve seen him once already,” he added. “He was really energetic. Everyone was full of energy and really liked it.”

Donna Carrasco of Dixon planned to purchase six Snoop Dogg tickets for her family. She said she has been attending May Fair concerts for years, and is always excited and impressed with the artists who perform.

“It revives the fair,” she said. “They’ve done a great job scheduling people and the concerts are selling out and bringing in money. I’m very proud of our little fair.”

The May 9 Snoop Dogg concert will feature special guest One Block Radius, and comedian Reno Collier will open for Larry the Cable Guy on May 12. Reserved tickets for both shows are $75 and $45, and general admission seating is $35. Every concert ticket includes admission to the fair.

Tickets can be purchased at the May Fair Box Office, 655 South First St. in Dixon, at all TicketMaster Outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at (800) 745-3000.

The May Fair’s carnival tickets and demolition derby tickets will be available at a later date. Fair officials are also finalizing the remainder of the fair’s headline performances, and additional acts will be announced when that information is available.

The 137th annual Dixon May Fair will open on Thursday, May 10 and entertain thousands of visitors through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13.  For more information, visit www.dixonmayfair.com.
