Flames Destroy Dixon's El Verduzco Restaurant

A popular Mexican eatery was burned down last night by a fire that erupted in the restaurant's kitchen.

Dixon firefighters received a call about the fire at 11:10 p.m., Friday, and were dispatched to the restaurant. El Verduzco is located at 1005 N Adams Street, which is about a block away from the fire station, and Dixon firefighters arrived within three minutes to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the restaurant.

Because of the intensity of the flames, the firefighters called in a second alarm and received support from Vacaville City Fire Department, UC Davis Fire Department and the City of Davis Fire Department.

“Our five on duty firefighters had a serious firefight on their hands while awaiting the arrival of mutual aid from our neighboring communities; our crews did an amazing job bringing this fire under control," Dixon Fire Chief Aaron McAlister said. "While the restaurant and its contents are a total loss, we were able to keep the fire from completely destroying the building itself and the neighboring businesses."

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down within the first 30 minutes of the attack and brought it fully under control in about an hour. The fire, McAlister said, appears to have generated from the kitchen and is being investigated by the department.

No injuries were reported; the restaurant was closed at the time that the fire began, according to the fire department.
