Giants' Matt Cain Pitches Perfect Game

Last night, Giants' pitcher Matt Cain made history by pitching a perfect game against the Houston Astros.

I was at the gym watching the television closely as the Giants' Matt Cain pitched a perfect game against the Houston Astros last night.

Only 21 other pitchers in Major League Baseball have pitched a perfect game. Cain became the first person in Giants history to pitch a perfect game. The Giants beat the Astros 10-0 last night at the Giants' home stadium.

According to Wikipedia: "A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.[2] Thus, the pitcher (or pitchers) cannot allow any hits, walks, hit batsmen, or any opposing player to reach base safely for any other reason: in short, "27 up, 27 down". The feat has been achieved 22 times in the history of major league baseball—20 times since the modern era began in 1900, most recently by Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants on June 13, 2012."

The last out of last night's game was made by Castro Valley native Jason Castro.

The umpire from last night's game is a Cal State Hayward grad and the only ump in Major League history to work two perfect games.

According to Baseball Almanac: The first perfect game in American League history was thrown by Cy Young who had his last no-hit game in the National League in 1897. His appearances in games prior to this one included two hitless innings on April 25th and six hitless innings on April 30th. He then pitched this game which featured true perfection.

This is a great accomplishment for pitcher Matt Cain and Dixon Patch congratulates him.
