Hay Fire Consumed Forklift at Sykes Road Dairy, Continues to Burn
Dixon Fire crews responded to a haystack on fire at a fully operating dairy early Monday morning. The fire will continue to smolder for the next day or two until it burns itself out.
A large fire that consumed a forklift and haystack at an operating Sykes Road dairy farm overnight continued to burn Monday morning.
Dixon Fire responded at 2 a.m. Monday morning, battling through the night on a fire that may continue to glow into the week.
Crews worked with the dairy owner to isolate the burning pile that contained approximately 30 tons of hay, so that it can safely burn itself out over the next 24-48 hours.“Fighting a hay stack fire requires copious amounts of water producing a large mess,” explained Dixon Fire Chief Aaron McAlister, “Allowing them to burn out is, many times, the most efficient way to mitigate the problem – as long as structure, vehicles, or other property are not in danger.”
Although the cause is currently under investigation, officials say there are no suspicious circumstances believed at this time.

No animals were injured in the incident. Property loss included at $30,000 forklift and an undetermined value for the 50 large bales.
