Letter to the Editor: Solano Orderly Growth Committee Endorses Thomson, Seifert

Letter to the editor

Dear Editor,

The Solano Orderly Growth Committee has endorsed Skip Thomson and Linda Seifert for County Supervisor in Districts 5 and 2.

Skip was the critical vote to extend our landmark Orderly Growth Initiative protecting 95% of Solano's farmlands and open space in 1994.  In 2002 Skip recognized that the 3,300 acre Wilcox Ranch was a potential vital resource  for Travis Air Force Base protection and possible expansion.   Wilcox Ranch was being purchased for pure habitat protection when Skip realized that Travis might need to expand onto this property some day.  Skip's foresight and leadership resulted in the most unique City/County/Air Force base protection partnership in the country.

Linda is Chair of the Board of Supervisors and Vice-Chair of the Solano Land Trust, and is a stalwart supporter of Solano County's farmlands and open spaces.  Under Linda’s leadership, the 1,500-acre Rockville Trails property, just north of Rockville Hills Park, will be preserved for habitat protection and public use when Solano Land Trust purchases it later this year.   Linda’s leadership was also instrumental in settling disputes over land use in Middle Green Valley, bringing permanent protection to another nearly 1,500 acres of agricultural lands.

We invited Linda and Skip's opponents to complete a questionnaire and meet with our interview panel, but they both failed to respond.

For a stark contrast between the two incumbents in these races just compare how Linda Seifert and Mike Reagan handled rooster mills.  In District 5 people complained bitterly for many years about the increasing number of cock fighting rooster mills.  They were ignored despite repeated calls to Supervisor offices.  When Linda Seifert was elected folks from Dixon had to go to her for help, which they received in record time.

We need strong leaders who are responsive to community interests and who will continue to protect our farmlands and open spaces.  Please join the Orderly Growth Committee membership in voting for Skip Thomson and Linda Seifert on June 5.
