Man Injured in Robbery-Related Shooting

Police are searching for two suspects thought to be involved in robbing a group of people, then shooting a 19-year-old in the back

A man was hospitalized after he was shot during a robbery in Fairfield early Sunday morning, police said.

The robbery occurred shortly before 1 a.m. as six Fairfield residents, all males between 16 and 19 years old, were walking on Fairfield Avenue near B. Gale Wilson Boulevard.

Two males, one of whom was armed, approached the group and told them to line up along a fence and turn over their valuables. The victims complied and the robbers escaped with cellphones and a wallet, police said.

The robbers walked away headed north on Fairfield Avenue, but then turned and fired at least one round back toward the group before running away.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the back, and the rest of his group flagged down a passing motorist, who drove him to NorthBay Medical Center. He was in serious but stable condition Sunday morning, police said.

The suspects were described as black males in their teens or early 20s, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall, both with thin builds.

The one carrying the gun had a darker complexion and was wearing dark pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt. The other was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and pants.
