Regional Liberty Rep Weinberg to Speak at TEA Party.

Dixon's 3rd Annual TEA Party planned for Saturday will feature Regional Liberty Rep Adam Weinberg as a guest speaker

If you’re wondering just why young people are becoming activists in the Liberty movement, come out and listen to Adam Weinberg speak at Dixon’s third annual Independence Day TEA Party, July 2, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Women’s Improvement Club Park, corner of North First and C Streets in downtown Dixon along Highway 113.

β€œI want to talk about why these young people are turning toward this movement of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets,” said Weinberg who is theΒ  Southwest Regional Coordinator for Young Americans for Liberty. β€œThey know the constitution and understand the economy. They understand the issues and they understand the stakes."

Weinberg became more seriously interested in liberty after watching his City Council in his hometown in North Carolina and where he graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts.

β€œI watched how it was getting run by big corporations and how city council was giving special privileges to big companies. I knew that was not the way to go and it got me interested in economic freedom and the constitution,” he said. β€œWhen I see the young people get involved, I get encouraged. We are going to have these people in Congress and they will be of great benefit to our country.”

Weinberg served on the presidential campaign for Ron Paul and now works for the Leadership Institute office in Oakland helping to organize Young Americans for Liberty chapters in three states. The Leadership Institute was founded in 1979 and its mission is to increase the number and effectiveness of conservative activists and leaders in the public policy process.

β€œAdam is a powerful speaker that I have high regard for,” said Devon Minnema, President of the Young Americans for Liberty of Dixon High School who is coordinating the Dixon TEA Party.

β€œThe TEAβ€”Taxed Enough Already-- Party movement is really the β€˜Liberty’ movement,” he said. β€œIt is more than a random group of ideas that may appear cohesive. It is about the sovereignty of the individualβ€”a philosophy embraced by our founding fathers and the philosophers who inspired them to write the Constitution.”

β€œThe date is purposely set close if not on America’s Independence Day because many of the same conditions in the country are what existed in the time of the original Boston Tea Party in Boston, Massachusetts on December 16, 1773,” YAL@DHS member Jacob Rubow explained.

β€œProtestors back then destroyed the tea rather than concede to the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented,” Minnema added. β€œThen, it was tea; now it is our way of living. Taxes are being raised because of the government’s inability to use our tax dollars wisely.”

Refreshments will be available during the event but after the speakers, attendees will be given "TEA Party Dining Discounts" to downtown Dixon restaurants. For more information, there is a Facebook event page or go to www.yaliberty.org. To donate or volunteer at this event, contact Minnema at (530) 848-3786.
