Six Horses Killed in Rural Dixon Barn Fire
"This property is a very sophisticated equestrian operation. These horses are not just casual riding horses. They're very valuable riding and jumping horses."

Six horses were killed in a barn fire north of Dixon early Friday morning.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but Dixon Fire Chief Aaron McAlister said they got the call around 1:30 a.m. for a fire at 8147 N. Meridian Road.
“The initial crew found one barn completely involved and the fire was extending to the second barn,” he said. “Water is hard to come by out there, so we concentrated our efforts on the second barn that was minimally involved.”

“The worst part of the whole thing is that the barn had six horses in it,” said McAlister. “This property is a very sophisticated equestrian operation. These horses are not just casual riding horses. They’re very valuable riding and jumping horses.”
Each horse is valued at between $40-50,000.
Dreamland Farms neighbor and fellow farm owner, Jacy Franceschi, sends her deepest sorrow for the loss of the horses, saying "I deem today hug-your-pets day; I surely appreciate our four-legged family."
The cause of the fire is not known, and is still under investigation.
“We don’t have any reason to suspect foul play,” said McAlister. “There’s electricity to the barn. A lot of possibilities.”
Crews were on the scene until around 5 a.m.
