Two Arrested in Connection with Fairfield Double Homicide

Fairfield police arrested two suspects today in connection with a double homicide that took place earlier this week in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood.

Darren Trahan, 21, of East Palo Alto and Marcel Rutherford-Chew, 18, of Redwood City, were taken into custody today after police made contact with their families in East Palo Alto on Friday, said Officer Cleo Mayoral.

Along with 21-year-old Blake Johnson, of Vallejo, Trahan and Rutherford-Chew have been named as suspects in a fatal shooting. Two men, Vedell Jamar-Chew, 24, of Fairfield and Bernard Francis Knight, 18, of East Palo Alto were fatally shot on El Toro Court around 4:45 p.m.

They were pronounced dead at the scene. The three suspects and two victims were acquaintances who were involved in criminal activity regarding drugs and weapons, Mayoral said. At least two of the suspects were armed, Mayoral said. "There was a dispute or conflict before the shooting," Mayoral said. Witnesses described a chaotic scene in the street and many bullet casings were recovered by crime scene investigators, Mayoral said.

Johnson, who remains at large, is a black male, 6 feet 2 inches, 220 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and long dreadlocks in his hair. He is associated with a black Mercedes Benz S500 sedan that was seen at the scene. He should be considered armed and dangerous and are being sought by police throughout the Bay Area, Mayoral said.
