Dublin American Idol Contestant Eliminated

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin native Filo Ebid came just short of making the Top 10 in American Idol, despite delivering a powerful rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" that earned a standing ovation from the three judges.

Ebid, a 23-year-old recent conservatory graduate who came to Dublin from Egypt at age 13, was an early favorite after winning a rare Platinum Ticketlive in Times Square on New Year's Eve. He quickly became a fan favorite with powerful performances of "Skyfall" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

On Monday's episode, after Ebid received guidance from American Idol Season 3 winner and "The Color Purple" star Fantasia Barrino, Ryan Seacrest announced that Ebid's journey was coming to an end. Although the judges reactions were left off-camera, a source told The U.S. Sun that judge Carrie Underwood was particularly "angry and sad" at the outcome. The studio crowd reportedly burst into chants of "Filo! Filo!" even after filming stopped, according to The Sun.

On social media, fans called the elimination "rigged" and said Ebid had been "robbed."
