DUBLIN, CA — Dublin City Councilmember Michael McCorriston announced that he will run for mayor in the November election. McCorriston, who was appointed acting mayor in 2024 after Melissa Hernandez left to join the BART Board of Directors, will challenge current Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu, who has announced her intention to run for re-election.

McCorriston is a 26-year Dublin resident and retired financial professional who was first elected to the Dublin City Council in 2020. He served as vice mayor in 2023, acting mayor from June to December 2024, and currently represents District 1 in West Dublin.

McCorriston said that his top priorities as mayor will be:

  • Improving transportation and infrastructure
  • Addressing housing and affordability and service gaps, particularly for senior residents

“Our diverse city continues to grow along with its need for public safety, services and infrastructure,” McCorriston said. “As mayor, I will use my leadership and professional finance experience to ensure police and fire have the resources and tools they need to keep our city safe. I will also ensure that the city’s financial resources remain robust to preserve city services and will continue to support investment in our city’s infrastructure, including maintaining roadways and improving the efficiency of traffic flows.”

McCorriston, who previously led the city’s Finance and Investment Committee, holds an MBA from the University of San Diego and managed the finances of several large multinational companies, including many years as assistant treasurer of TD Synnex, a Fortune 150 IT company. He said in his campaign announcement that he wants to use his professional experience to ensure that the city does not face the similar budget challenges that have affected nearby cities, and that “the city’s financial resources are used to strengthen our community today and for future generations.”

McCorriston also listed public safety as a cornerstone of his campaign, and cited past efforts to establish safety measures for e-bikes and improve coordination with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office to help better manage county jail inmates re-entering society.

He also advocated a growth and development that is both “economically and environmentally sustainable” as well as “thought out aesthetically.”

“We can preserve our remaining natural landscapes and emphasize open space for the enjoyment of our community with intelligent development planning. As mayor, I will encourage development efforts that partner with the community and local skilled labor for new development and the revitalization of existing structures to meet Dublin’s residential and commercial demands.”

He also advocated for home affordability, particularly workforce housing. ““The need for quality workforce housing is at a critical stage in the Bay Area, and I intend to focus on creative solutions that would allow our first responders, educators, and young families to live and work in our city,” he said.

McCorriston has lived in Dublin for 26 years with his wife and two daughters. He received a bachelors in business finance from San Jose State University and an MBA from the University of San Diego.
