Dublin Police Poised To Use Cannabis Tax Money To Fund DUI Prevention

The Dublin City Council is poised to approve more than $204,000 from CHP to help police prevent impaired driving.

DUBLIN, CA — The Dublin City Council is set to approve $204,687 from the state's Cannabis Tax Fund Grant to support Dublin Police Services' various enforcement activities. The item is located on the consent calendar for the council's Aug. 19 meeting, meaning it is likely to be approved.

For the second time, Dublin Police Services applied for and was awarded the grant from the California Highway Patrol's Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program. The money will be used for various strategies known to reduce impaired driving, including the purchase of a dedicated DUI Suppression patrol vehicle, overtime costs related to conducting 12 DUI Saturation Patrols, and two message board trailers used to remind drivers of the dangers of impaired driving, equipped with radar speed feedback.

If approved, the city of Dublin would absorb all indirect charges and other administrative costs within the adopted FY 2025-26 budget.
