SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude reading of 4.2 was felt in the Bay Area at 7:46 p.m. Monday night. Before 8 p.m., it had been downgraded to 4.0.
By 8:15, it was down to 3.9.
No injuries or damage have been reported.
The initial earthquake was followed by multiple aftershocks. By 8:30 p.m., four measured above 2.0. Three were 2.2, and one was 2.3. They were recorded at 7:53, 8:10, 8:20 and 8:22.
The epicenter for the St. Patrick's Day temblor was Dublin, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The Calaveras Fault runs through Dublin, along with the nearby towns of Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, Pleasanton, and Sunol. Further south it goes through Milpitas, San Jose, Gilroy, and Hollister.
The earthquake was described as an intense jolt, as opposed to rolling.
