An Evening at the Eagle Rock Farmer's Market

The market underwent a bit of a revamping in the spring and brought in some new vendors, new music and a guest speaker series.

I dropped by the Eagle Rock Farmer's Market this hot, sticky Friday evening and enjoyed a pleasant time with my wife and 2-year-old daughter.

Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce President Michael Nogueira said the crowd was a little lighter than normal, likely due to it being a holiday weekend as well as one of the more humid days the city has experienced this summer.

The market underwent a bit of a revamping in the spring and brought in some new vendors, new music and a guest speaker series. On Friday, it was Aaron & Alejandra treating the crowd to a number of well-delivered cover tunes, including songs from The Clash, Radiohead and, perhaps most interesting, an acoustic version of the Commodores' "Easy Like Sunday Morning."

"We brought in new music, new bands. We used to have an Elvis guy that played strictly Elvis, and it got old after awhile," Nogueira said.

The guest speaker series ended earlier this summer but Nogueira said it may be brought back.

"We did for a few times, but we might be starting that up and doing that again. Somebody maybe wants to come in from the agriculture department and talk about what is certified and what is not certified, how do you become certified, and explain certain things," Nogueira said.

Check out the attached video for some highlights from the evening. The Eagle Rock Farmer's Market is held every Friday from 5-9 p.m. at 2100 Merton Avenue.
