Beware of These Street Closures on Your May Day Commute
The Occupy L.A. movement is planning a massive rally culminating in the financial district Tuesday.

Tuesday is May Day, formally known as International Workers’ Day, and traffic’s going to be a mess all over Downtown and well beyond.
The Occupy Los Angeles movement is planning a huge rally featuring four caravans that will converge from the north, south, east and west for a rally in the Downtown financial district at Pershing Square. Some streets Downtown will be start closing around 7 a.m. and will continue to be closed until 7:30 p.m.
Here’s a list of Downtown street closures, according to a communiqué issued by the Los Angeles Fire Department:

Broadway between 11th Street and Temple Street.
Olympic Boulevard between Hill Street and Main Street.

9th Street between Hill Street and Broadway.
8th Street between Spring Street and Broadway.
7th Street between Hill Street and Spring Street.
6th Street between Hill Street and Broadway.
5th Street between Spring Street and Broadway.
4th Street between Hill Street (Olive Street, if necessary) and Broadway.
3rd Street between Spring Street and Broadway.
2nd Street between Hill Street and Broadway.
1st Street between Hill Street (Grand Avenue, if necessary) and Broadway (Main Street, if necessary).

Recognized as a labor holiday in more than 80 countries, May Day commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago, where dozens of workers were killed by police during a protest strike for the eight-hour workday.
