PHOTOS: Northeast Officials Meet With Constituents in Eagle Rock

Congressman Becerra, Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez and Councilman Huizar join LAPD Capt. Jeff Bert in community event at the Center for the Arts.

About 80 people gathered Saturday afternoon in the , to meet with a group of elected officials from Northeast Los Angeles who talked about the roles of their respective levels of government and the programs and services they offer, besides listening to constituents’ concerns in face-to-face meetings.

The event featured Congressman Xavier Becerra, 51st District Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez and Councilman José Huizar. State Senator Kevin De Leon, the fourth official scheduled to be present, was unable to attend the event because of a last-minute family emergency, according to CD 14 Field Deputy Nate Hayward.

Also present at the event were Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Jeff Bert, who recently replaced Cmdr. Bill Murphy as the head of the LAPD’s Northeast area station, and Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Bennett Kayser.

Capt. Bert explained how the Northeast Division leads the City of Los Angeles in violent crime reduction so far this year.
