East Palo Alto Man Accused Of Sending Criminal Threats To Ex

Police allege the man sent threatening messages to an ex-girlfriend, including a photo of him holding a handgun.

EAST PALO ALTO, CA — A man accused of sending threatening texts was arrested this month with several handguns, according to Redwood City police.

Detectives allege they were informed last week about threats sent by an East Palo Alto man to his ex-girlfriend, including an image sent of him holding a handgun. Investigators visited the man's home Wednesday and executed a search warrant.

According to police, officers discovered four handguns, including the one used in the image, along with ammunition and four pounds of marijuana.

Police identified the suspect Thursday as Jose Padilla-Hernandez, 47, of East Palo Alto. He was booked into jail on suspicion of felony criminal threats, with additional charges pending for illegal firearms and marijuana.
