Gil Cedillo Hosts EP Town Hall Tuesday, Local 'Home Rescue Fair' Saturday

The author of the California Dream Act holds a town meeting Tuesday in Echo Park and a "Northeast Home Rescue Fair" on Saturday.

Assembly district 45 representative Gil Cedillo  will be in the area twice this week for community events.

District 45, includes Echo Park and Silver Lake, as well as many other Eastside communities.

Cedillo first appears today, Tuesday at  6 p.m. Cedillo wil join Echo Park/Silver Lake residents for a town hall at , located at 1147 Lemoyne St.

According Cedillo’s office he’ll discuss legislation he's working on, including, presumably, Part 2 of the so-called "California Dream Act" awaiting the governor's signature.  Gov. Brown has until Oct. 9 to sign it.

Cedillo will host similar town halls on Sept. 27 in Highland Park, Lincoln Heights on Sept. 20 and in El Sereno on Oct. 4.

On Saturday,  Cedillo is back in Lincoln Heights for what is being billed as a “Northeast Home Rescue Fair.”

Representatives from Bank of America and Chase, attorneys and HUD-approved housing counselors  will be on hand to help people who are in danger of losing their homes in a very practical way.

Early August data shows there were 623 households in 90026 and another 367 in the 90039 zip code in danger of foreclosure.

Over the entire 25-zip-code-area of district 45, 12,744 homes had pre-foreclosure status.

“The problem of foreclosure is persistent and pervasive, “ said Cedillo in a phone interview with Echo Park Park Patch. “We need to use our office to give people the leverage they need to deal with the problem.”

The event goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Goodwill Industries at 342 N. San Fernando Road 90031

Homeowners are encouraged to bring recent property and mortgage statements  as well as a variety of other documents.
