SWAT, FBI in Raid Near Fix Coffee Tuesday

Loud explosions were shaking the area near Echo Park Avenue and Baxter Street as LAPD and FBI officers, reportedly, made a series of arrests.

UPDATE: Eastsider LA reports that two arrests were made on narcotics related charges as a result of the raid.

EARLIER: We can't get much yet from the LAPD's Northeast division, but Sgt. Edward Ortiz, the Watch Commander, is willing to confirm that SWAT is definitely at Echo Park Avenue and Baxter Street, near and .

Nearby residents have reported on Twitter that they've heard loud bangs, and seen FBI officers on the scene, along with SWAT.

Sgt. Ortiz says those shots may actually be special grenades used to stun suspects.

The Eastsider says there's the possibility of warrants being served. And rumors have been swirling that a bust in the area was in the offing.

Council member Eric Garcetti told Echo Park Patch recently that the , including what some have said is the "gang house" just north of Fix Coffee on Echo Park Avenue.

Sgt. Ortiz at Northeast can't confirm that anyone has yet been brought back to the station.  But we'll keep an eye on that for you.
